Continental’s WinterContact TS 870 in size 205/55 R 16 came out on top in the winter tyre test published today by the German automobile club ADAC, the Austrian ÖAMTC and the Swiss TCS. ADAC and ÖAMTC awarded it the top rating of “good” (2.0), while the Swiss automobile club TCS rated it “highly recommended”. This puts Continental’s winter expert in first place out of a total of twelve models tested. The automobile clubs tested tyre models from European, Asian and American manufacturers. The test vehicle was a Volkswagen Golf.
In the test, the WinterContact TS 870 met the high demands of the automobile clubs: “The Continental WinterContact TS 870 is convincing on all road surfaces and secures a clearly good rating for driving safety with a slight gap to the pursuers”. The ADAC also confirms the strengths of the WinterContact TS 870 as follows: “On wet roads, the WinterContact TS 870 achieves the best score in the test field. It is rewarded with good marks in all sub-criteria, as it performs above average in all wet criteria. It impresses with short braking distances and good aquaplaning behavior, as well as its handling performance.”
WinterContact TS 870 is designed for mini to mid-size cars. Even sporty compact cars can get through the cold season safely with this winter tyre. The wide product range includes tyres with diameters from 14 to 18 inches, cross-sections from 40 to 70 series and widths from 155 to 225 millimeters – including models with rim protection ribs and XL markings for increased load capacity. Speed ratings range up to 240 km/h.
Semperit Speed-Grip 5 also wins over the jury
The performance of the Semperit brand in the test was also pleasing. The Speed-Grip 5 in the size 215/55 R 17 received an overall mark of “Satisfactory” (2.6) from ADAC and ÖAMTC and a “recommended” from TCS: “It offers above-average mileage and also shows low wear. Its efficiency is also impressive thanks to its low weight and low fuel consumption”.
