McGuinness got behind the wheel for all four races of The International Truck Prix (ITP) in a Giti branded
Team Oliver truck, and more than admirably held his own in front of over 100,000 fans in what often
proved to be wet and challenging conditions.
Returning in the ITP races was Martin Gibson, Giti Tire’s Manager – EU Testing Centre and Motorsport
UK who drove the Giti MAN TGX truck and picked up where he left off following his successful 2021
season with three podium finishes from two second and one third place.
Across the same weekend the fourth round of the British Truck Racing Championship (BTRC) took place
consisting of five races. These featured the Giti MAN TGX driven by Michael Oliver and the bonneted
VOLVO VNL truck of Stuart Oliver, both of which were fully decked out in Giti Tire Motorsport colours.
Giti Tire remains the Official Partner and Exclusive Tyre Supplier to the BTRC, with all competition trucks
fitted with Giti Race-Tuned v1 global competition truck tyres in size 315/70R22.5.
The tyre quality was proven on the shared Giti MAN TGX which ran on the same tyres all weekend
which included the warm-up, three qualification and nine races in total. During the final race the truck
was recording its fastest lap times of the weekend.
McGuinness said of his experience: “It’s certainly very different to racing a motorbike but I have had
great support from Team Oliver and Giti Tire and I thoroughly enjoyed the experience. Thanks to
everyone who came out to watch the team compete.”
The racing was seen by huge crowds as Convoy in the Park continues to attract truck and racing lovers
with a range of impressive truck, manufacturer and exhibitor displays throughout the venue plus stunt
shows, live music and children’s entertainment.
Among the 750 invitees, which consisted of representatives and their families from fleet operators,
customers, tyre dealers, fitters and suppliers, were guests from the UK, Germany, Switzerland, Eastern
Europe and The Middle East.
Manish Rathor, Product Marketing & Technical Service Manager for Giti Tire M.E.A (FZCO), Dubai, said:
“We would like to express our sincere gratitude and thanks to the entire team of Giti UK and Giti EU for
inviting the Middle East team to experience the largest truck racing event in the UK.
“Middle Eastern customers and officials were all thrilled after seeing the excellent performance of Giti
truck racing tyres on the circuit and wish to thank the entire team for the hospitality and organising such
a great event.”
“What a fantastic weekend, the hospitality from Giti was second-to-none and the racing was so exciting
for the family, they can’t wait for next year,” said Scott Butler, Depot Manager at Sol Tyres.
Jake Whitwell, Business Development Manager at Dexel, added: “What a great event and very well
represented by Giti Tire. My Customers all left with a smile on their faces from a truly fantastic day,
including the racing of course.”
