Cooper Tires are sponsor rising star Timmy Hansen in the FIA European Rallycross Championship for 2013.
Twenty-year-old Hansen, who is a member of the FIA Institute Young Driver Academy, will contest a full season with Hansen Motorsport, following a strong debut race in Finland last season. In 2012, Hansen also competed in the opening four rounds of the Formula Renault 2.0 Eurocup Championship.
Hansen Motorsport, managed by 14-time FIA European Rallycross Champion and father of Timmy, Kenneth Hansen, is one of the most respected teams in the series.
The announcement comes as the tyre manufacturer has also agreed terms to become a principal partner to the Championship for 2013, an agreement which will see the manufacturer gain increased trackside branding, as well as allocated on-site space for promotional activity.
“We’re very excited about our new partnership with Hansen,”said Cooper Tire’s General Manager for motorsport, Paul Coates, “Timmy comes from a family rich in European Rallycross heritage and he already has some solid racing experience, having raced in Formula Renault, as well as making an appearance at the Finnish round of European Rallycross last year.”
The FIA European Rallycross Championship will be contested over 9 rounds this season, with the home of RallycrossRX in the UK, Lydden Hill, playing host to the 2013 curtain-raiser over Easter (March 31-April 1).
