The great and good from the tyre industry were out in force for the National Tyre Distributors Association (NTDA) Annual Conference and 89 th annual Dinner and 4 th Tyre Industry Awards, which coincided with the relaunch of TREAD Magazine, with strong feedback noted by many of the delegates at the conference.
The Hilton DoubleTree hotel situated in MK Dons stadium, Milton Keynes, once again played host to the event, a fixture in the industry calendar, on 4 October 2018.
Inclusivity and collaboration were prevailing themes throughout the 2018 conference, with forward-looking presentations taking in themes as diverse as wheel safety, tyre disposal, technician training and the workshop of the future.
Gary Walker, Waste Unit Manager and Tyre Sector Lead at the Scottish Environmental Protection Agency (SEPA) highlighted in his presentation the “common values and common purpose” between regulators and industry. In one of the breaks in between member presentations, Stefan Hay, CEO of the NTDA celebrated the success of the Roadside Emergency Action Concerning Technicians (REACT) scheme, and declared the scheme a “demostration of what a true united industry can achieve.”
REACT recently saw its 5000 th technician receive the licence to Work Safely at the Roadside, with Keiran Smith of Lodge Tyre Company in Stafford receiving the honour in September.
Glittering evening ceremony
Following the conference, a glittering evening ceremony and black tie dinner took place, with the NTDA Charity Raffle on behalf of Wheelwrights’ Charity attracting donations from those gathered for the event.
A rapturous after-dinner speech by television personality Mark Durden-Smith drew laughter from the crowd ahead of the presentation of the 2018 Tyre Industry Awards.
TREAD Magazine’s sister publication, Scots Auto Scene, once again sponsored the award for Marketing Campaign of the Year, won this year by Micheldever Protyre.
