Continental is taking aim at the growing scooter market with nine new sizes of its successfully established ContiScoot premium scooter tire. The popularity of motor scooters continues to grow: In 2023, more than 20 million customers worldwide opted for the practical two-wheelers. Their compact dimensions and excellent agility make them especially compelling for individual transportation in major cities. In fact, analysts estimate that global annual registrations will rise to around 24 million vehicles by the end of the decade – in part because electrification will make scooters even more attractive.
Many benefits for day-to-day enjoyment paired with the highest levels of safety
The ContiScoot has many qualities that make it the ideal tire for demanding scooter riders. Outstanding grip in cold and wet conditions ensure a feeling of safe, agile handling with perfect feedback and a high sense of trust from the get-go even on gray days during cold times of year. The same applies to the short braking distances on wet and dry surfaces. This is where the ContiScoot benefits from its profile design with excellent water displacement as well as tread material optimized for wet conditions.
On scooters used for urban commuting, the ContiScoot offers yet another convincing argument, especially in the case of small tire sizes: Its high level of inherent damping takes the shock out of poor road surfaces, such as cobblestones, for a very comfortable ride. Scooter riders who cover high mileages appreciate the low wear paired with consistently high performance – and likewise, the associated safety, comfort and low operating costs.
Know-how from high-performance motorcycle tires
Sagren Nair, Product Manager for Motorcycle Tires at Continental: “As a premium product, the ContiScoot benefits to a high degree from our comprehensive know-how in the development of high-performance motorcycle tires. That applies above all to the interaction of tire contour, carcass and tire compound. To that extent, the ContiScoot combines the pragmatic demands of many scooter riders with maximum riding fun.”
Nine new sizes from 10 to 13 inches
The new sizes cover the classic small scooter segment with the 3.50-10” format as well as the demands of many popular mid-size scooters with the 130/60-13” format. The rollout of the new sizes starts now and continues into the fourth quarter 2024. This takes the ContiScoot lineup to a total of 32 front and rear wheel sizes from 10 to 16 inches – and thus fulfills the demands of virtually all scooters in the 50 to 350 cc segment.
