Remondis Successfully Employs Digital Solutions from Continental

High operational reliability, lower CO2 emissions: provider of waste processing and recycling services benefits from digital solutions, tire service and specialist tyre technology.

A year ago, recycling, service and water management specialist Remondis rolled out the ContiConnect digital tyre pressure monitoring system across another five of its locations. And the globally active, privately owned company can report consistently positive results. “We have fitted half of the vehicles in our fleet with tyre sensors,” reports Robert Dressel, Managing Director of Remondis Sachsen based in Altenburg, Germany. “And we have installed a yard reader at our depot in Altenburg that automatically records tyre data.” This means more than 50 of the company’s vehicles in the German states of Thuringia and Saxony are equipped with digital solutions from Continental. “With ContiConnect, we’ve been able to avoid short-notice tyre failures and tyre damage on multiple occasions.” Gradual losses of tyre pressure were identified and remedied, allowing tyre breakdowns and vehicle downtime to be prevented. The punctuality of the company’s services also improved as a result, which plays a major role in increasing customer satisfaction and brings more calm to hectic everyday operations. This, in turn, has a healthy effect on employee positivity.

Focusing on tyre inflation pressure

Sustainability is deeply embedded in the company philosophy of Remondis, one of the world’s leading service providers in the waste processing and recycling sectors. However, Remondis is also playing its part in protecting resources beyond its core business activities. Its operations may extend across 30 countries, but the recycling specialist is working with sustainable solutions on a local level, too – increasingly supported by digital technologies. “Given the persistently high fuel prices and high levels of tyre wear we were experiencing, we decided to look more closely at monitoring tyre pressures,” says Dressel. “Our previous service provider was unable to offer us a solution.” And so Remondis switched to nearby tyre partner Thüsac Windischleuba and now also uses the Conti360° Solutions all-round fleet package with tyre contract, ContiConnect digital tyre monitoring system.

The combination of tyre service, tyre pressure monitoring and correct tyre selection ensures that the tyres on Remondis vehicles are always inflated to the optimal pressure. In this way, unexpected tyre failures are prevented and the service life of the tyres is extended significantly. The package of solutions from Continental therefore enhances efficiency and helps Remondis to reduce its CO2 emissions.

ContiConnect: a Remondis success story

It was back in 2020 that the Remondis Group decided to equip an initial group of vehicles with ContiConnect. The Remondis Südwestfalen locations in the towns of Oelde and Soest fitted the tyre sensors in their fleets and subsequently gained the benefits of digital tyre monitoring. And now the company is building on this successful experience in Saxony. “We are enjoying higher fleet efficiency, lower fuel consumption and increased tyre mileage,” says Robert Dressel. That’s not only good news for the environment; it also aligns with the company’s goals and gives customer satisfaction a considerable boost.
